Re: INSTALLING INDIGLO GAUGES - Go for it!
Hey Sac D... I'm new to the forum... I recently...(2 hours ago) tried to install the Indiglo Gauges for my 2001 Santy...and I used your tutorial..which was really helpful. :D
I got everything hooked in and when I turned on the car... the indiglo's definately were not on. The rheostat switch still functioned fine...and I could see that green glow from behind the new gauges but they were dead. I was supposed to tap into the green wire with the orange stripe..right?... I think maybe the transformer in the kit is defective... or I tapped into the wrong wire..... As of right now.... I'm confused. >:

Re: INSTALLING INDIGLO GAUGES - Go for it!
welcome to the forum!! yeah, the green wire with the pink stripe should have been the right wire to hook the positive up to. is there any way you can take the dash cluster with the gauges attached out and hook it up to the battery directoy to see if it is working? if it doesnt work then then id say its the transformer.

Indiglo problem
That was exactly the guestion I was going to ask. I put mine in yesterday as well. At first they would not come on -then they did (the orange/green wire is the correct one) - I could hear the little transformer humming - I start to pull out of the driveway - then darkness and no more hum. Checked, ground, fuse, connection - nothing wrong, just no little transformer hum
When they worked they were awesome, great, etc. I mailed proautoparts about this, but I am not believing customer service is their strong point.
Could something be rigged from Radioshack?

Re: Indiglo problem
You are correct, customer service is not their strong point. Try emailing richardy@procarparts.com - he's been pretty helpful to me the many times I have had to contact them.

I'm expecting my 3rd set of gauges from them on Monday...the first was doa, the second lasted about 2 months and died last week. I emailed richard immediately and he said he would send me out a new tested set. Naturally I will test them before I go and dissamble my dash again (I think I can do it with my eyes closed!).

The easiest way I've found to test them is to use the +12V coming out of the PC power supply and ground it to the chasis of the system.

Good luck with your gauges!

Re: Indiglo problem
Okay my gauges should arrive tomorrow but now this thread is starting to scare me. I would like to hear from some owners who have had the gauges installed for a period of time and their opinions on quality. Has anyone had their gauges for a year?

Re: Indiglo problem
ive had mine for quite a while (almost a year) and have no problems at all. i think maybe they just got ahold of a bad batch. best thing to do, before you hook ANYTHING up, is to try it on the battery first. i hate when i get stuff hooked up, then it doesnt work... :lol

Indiglo
Justa follow up, I fiddled with mine yesterday and got them to work- and they have worked for one night so far.
Proautoparts is sending me a new transformer, actually prompt service. So if the old one keeps working -cool, I'll have a spare.
Dont be discouraged, these things are awesome at night and just the white gauges in the day is worth it.
I also blacked out the backs of mine with a wide tipped Sharpie, one coat at night and one the next morning. Its a little wet after you first put it on, but dries well, two coats blacked it out solid, and did not hamper the "glow", with less bleed through.

Re: INSTALLING INDIGLO GAUGES - Go for it!
I've had mine installed for many months now... one of the four gauges burned out within a day of installation, but procarparts promptly sent a replacement and I have gone without a glitch ever since! This is literally hundreds of hours, considering that I have the lights on night AND day.

Re: INSTALLING INDIGLO GAUGES - Go for it!
Okay my gauges are in with no problems on the installation. Following Sac D's instructions made it a very simple install. My only problem with the gauges is that my tachometer is a little scuffed up probably from the shipping since these things were not packaged very well. I think I am just going to order me a new complete set that way I will have spares. You can't beat the price for these things and it gives the dash a complete custom make over. My install tips and observations: 1 The screws in the tach and speedo, do not tighten these down. Right at the moment you feel resistence stop tightening. I made them pretty tight and what happened was they deformed the very thin plastic coating on my new gauges in a twisting pattern. It is only noticeable to me but it did happen. 2 When putting on the tach and speedo gauges make sure as you start to press down around the needle buttons that you get the new gauge opening edge fully under the button so it will give you a little more clearance as you press the other edge down. This is hard to explain to someone that hasn't installed these yet but you will see what I am talking about when you do. Let me try to clarify because this is a important tip. Place one edge of the gauge opening down around the button and when it clears it will slide under the button back to the shaft, this will give you more clearance for the final edge of the gauge opening to slide into place. On my install I did not realize this at first and as I tried to force the gauge opening over the button this also distorted the very thin plastic coating on my new gauges. Okay guys thanks for all the help from this forum and I highly reccomend this mod for every Santa Fe owner.

Good news, 'Dub. You probably discovered that this install wasn't as hard as you expected it to be, right? So let that encourage others. As cheap as these things are (if acquired on ebay) its worth doing... even if, at worst, a gauge gets messed up on the first try.

Re: INSTALLING INDIGLO GAUGES - Go for it!
Yes the install was very easy. It seams intimidating at first but there was nothing to it at all. Much easier than installing a car stereo. I was joking with my buddy that I should open a Santa Fe customization shop right next door to my Hyundai dealer. I think it would realy take off. I figure I would charge about $150.00 to do a gauge job.:)

P.S. This mod took approximately one hour for me.

Re: INSTALLING INDIGLO GAUGES - Go for it!
I finally received my gauges yesterday afternoon [haven't opened the box yet - have to do it tonight to make sure they're okay]. I'm itching to get the install done but right now the garage is full of boxes as I'm moving soon. Figured I'd wait until I can get it in the new garage and then take my time. Glad to hear the encouragement from y'all that this install is not that hard. Can't wait...

Don't take too long or you'll end up like me. The gaugeswere one of the first items I bought and never got to put them in, in fact after a while I though I lost them and ordered another set. Now they are both in the garage. :lol
One of these days I will, I promised SacD I would :lol

Re: INSTALLING INDIGLO GAUGES - Go for it!
Well guys I ordered a couple sets of these for the wife and I. I printed out the installation instructions from Sac-D after I figured out the link. Apparently he has the same problems I did when we both got converted over from ATT to Comcast for our ISP's. I have read the thread and took some notes is there anything else that anyone would like to add before the Iniglo gauges get here and I attempt this mod?

In the event anybody wants to do this mod and can't find SacD's Indiglo page this is the correct link.
Sac D's Reverse Indiglo Gauges Install Guide.
I also fixed it on my website for those that go through there.

Re: gauges
I have two questions:

1: For those who blacked out the gauges: Do you black out the back of the white gauges? Also, is the black noticable at all during day/night, lit/not lit (Does the black color bleed through)?

2: For those who have drilled holes for switches: Right now I have my underglow neon switch hanging from the dimmer control pocket (its in my pics in the photo gallery). I want to put it in the unused button above the radio (there's the foglight, hazard light, "unused", and rear defrost). I got the switch at auto zone. Its a round rocker switch w/ a green LED built in. Is it possible to drill a hole and put it there? I checked out the back of the unused button and its just plastic "columns" sticking out (sorry cant really explain it).

Re: gauges
I noticed that too, I was thinking of putting the switch the same way that Sac D did it within the rheostat, but those unused buttons have too too many little honeycomb columns to drill through.

Oh yeah, I forogt to mention. After a year of getting them, thinking I lost the first set and getting a second set I finally did the Indiglo lights mod. Yippee.

I'm also doing a write up on it with more pics, especially the critical part. I'll pass it to Sac D for review and then post it to my website later on in the week.

Yippee.

Update: I just uploaded my version of the Indiglo install mod after Sac D approved of it and we made a few minor corrections. Just go to my website to the mod section.
Warning its a bit long, but I figure if I made it smaller in instructions it might miss a critiacl part of the install and hopefully entice future modifiers to do it.

Re: gauges
They are in.... I mean iv'e just fitted my indiglo gauges and they are awesome.:) :) :) :)
:) Used the instructions from Twospirits website and with a slight change in the switch placement everthing went as planned...yes T/S pics will follow.:) :)
:) Did the black tape behind all of the gauges tip and a spot of superglue behind the temp and fuel gauges.
These should be standard HYUNDAI..........:) :) :)
Edit
Update on the indiglo's.
All still working but found temp gauge not moving too free so took it all out again ( its real easy now) and took the plunge and removed the NEEDLE yes I just pulled it off no problem at all and now it sits slightly higher from gauge face than normal and is working perfectly, decided to do the same with fuel NEEDLE as well and again that just popped off a treat.
If I had known I think I would have removed them before fitting gauge faces, end result is that all now working correctly.
Where did my indiglos come from you ask, well a very nice Santy owner I think he's called TWOSPIRITS :lol :lol :lol :lol sent me his spare set, not only sent them but free of charge!!!!!
Im astounded to find someone 3000 miles away with generosity like that, apart from RIB and Seaniii and whats is name:) :) :) :) :) :)
Anyway Twospirits has some U.K. goodies on its way to him.
