Re: gauges
Excellent!

And your detailed description of the "critical" portion of the install is very good...
I'll try to find time to lift it from the forum and include it in the dialogue for the tutorial.

As for deciding on blue or green... it's a tough choice. I take it that you too are NOT gonna
drill a hole for that switch... it's not something one would be constantly changing, so why bother, right?

Thanks for the update on your install.

Re: gauges
I've decided on the green. It matches the other dash lights more than the blue. I also found that the
gauges are a little brighter than I thought they'd be, so I have them dimmed down a bit. Another note
that I can add to all this is about the lights that show through on the RPM and speedometer. You know,
the parking and seatbelt lights. When I first reinstalled everything, I noticed they were off slightly. This is because the old gauges are still underneath. So, I adjusted them slightly while they were installed. The last thing to add is that you want to clean up the dust and fingerprints from the inside of the pod as much as possible. With the white gauge faces, you notice the dust and dirt very easily.

Thanks again for the excellent instructions!

Re: gauges
This thread has gotten stale recently. Well... fear not, it will pick up when twospirits gets in here and reports on his install. -IF- he ever does it!
Hehehe, do you still remember where you put your gauges, bro?

Re: gauges
Ha Ha Ha, not funny. :lol

Actually when I thought that it was all but lost I went ahead and ordered another set. The day it came in bingo, I find the first set. So Yes, I now have two and still haven't install either one. :lol Funny, I joke about placing all these parts I get on a mantel, hmmm maybe I should get a mantel next. :lol

guages - HELP!
:rolleyes Hope someone can read and answer this soon. I won an auction for the euro reverse glow guages on E-bay. The write up said it was for the "2001 +" Santa Fe. I inquired if that meant the 2002 also.

Response I received this evening said, "YEs it should. Do the gauges look exactly like the ones in your car?"

Since I probably got the guy who said - Santa Fe - didn't know we had any for them - , can someone confirm my concern. Mine is a 2002 1/2 and these are for the 2001. Look the same to me. An e-mail to jwhite18816@earthlink.net would really really be appreciated.

Anxious to get the guages and be the first to ask, where can I buy a complete new dash - NOT!

You guys are great! Led me through programming my Fobs, provide step-by-step installation instructions for the guages. Who could ask for anything more? (Think I heard that somewhere before).

Re: guages - HELP!
Whoda,

I've looked at the 2002.5 and have the 2003 brochure and I see no difference in the gauges from the 2001/2002. Mine is a 2002 which was born about two weeks before they started birthing the .5s......mine came with the gas struts for the hood while some of the earlier 2002s did not. Go figure!!

guages - HELP!
Thanks Ri'B. I finally received another e-mail from them saying - yeah it's the same as the 2001.
I went ahead and sent them PayPal payment.

It's the wife's Santy, but when I drive it, I find it near impossible to see the guages in the daytime if the Sun is anywhere in front of me. I'm sure the White guages will be a huge improvement.

Now to waiting for their arrival.

Thanks again,

Whoda

Re: guages - HELP!
I think you will be very happy with the gauges. Now that I've had mine for quite a while, I'd hate to go back to the vanilla stuff.
They look great in the daylight, and at night they can't be beat. I have them on full brightness too.

Re: guages - HELP!
Daft question?
Are the MPH readings on indigo gauges the same in USA as UK.
I mean is 30 mph there, the same as 30 mph here, or in other words if I get and install them will I get a true reading???

I said it's a daft question. :\

Re: guages - HELP!
Hey Doug,

Neat new pic you've got going there; nice duals exhaust too!!!

A mile in the USA = 5,280 feet or 1,760 yards.

Re: gauges
I just got my gauges in and I figured I'd ask first so I get it right the first time...

Everything looks easy up to the wiring point. There are 2 wires coming off the starter module - a black/red one that ends with a silver circular loop, and a red one. Which one gets hooked to what inside the rheostat panel? And what is the best way to make this connection (details pls!).

Will I still be able to use the dimmer currently on the panel, or do I have to use the one supplied? And if I can continue to use the one on the panel, what is the correct way to wire it up?

By the way...the guide provided by Sac D and GM Typhoon is very good.

Thanks for the help!

Re: gauges
Re: Wiring the indiglo gauges

Black wire with Circular Connector is the negative/ground and gets bolted to anywhere on the chassis. Theres a brass nut that holds the upper end of the Passenger compartment fuse/relay box onto the chassis. Just take off the nut, slide the circular connector over the bolt and reapply the nut.

Red bare-ended wire is the Positive/Hot supply. This gets spiced into the Green-with-Orange Stripe wire that goes into the rheostat. Use a blue colored Tap Connector from Radio Shack Radio Shack or Lowe's/Home Depot/etc.

The rheostat will still work normally but won't affect the indiglos.

Also, to minimize light leak around the gauges, I bought some foam double stick Mounting Tape from Lowe's. This is 3/4" wide and is normally used to hang picture and stuff on walls. It cost about $1.55 for the roll. I took a sharp Xacto knife and slit sections of the foam tape into strips approx. 1/4" wide. I applied these strips into the channels in the back of the Blac Plastic faceplate that goes over the gauges. This made a "gasket" to seal light leaks around the indiglos. You might need to poke the foam back a little here and there in places to keep it from peeking out aound the faceplate, but no big deal. The indiglos still leak a little from behind and thru the needle hole, but not too bad. If you wanted to get fussy, you could paint the backsides of the gauges black or cover them with electrical tape.

Hope this helps. Good luck!!

Ron

Re: gauges
Has anyone attempted to install the gauges that are available on Ebay for $23.95 or so on a 2003 Santa Fe yet? If so any final hints or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Re: gauges
the 2003 should be exactly the same as the 2001 and 2002 gauge wise.

Re: gauges
Thanks Oni, I do consider you to be a expert on Santy mods. For those who are just getting started like me, the first mod you have to make is the xenon bulbs for the head lights and fog lamps. I swear this $30.00 mod added $10,000.00 to the price of my Santy in appearance alone. I am now driving a high performance European looking Santy.

Gauges
Lite Glow from Target for the headlamps and I had to order some 893's off the internet for my fogs (not sure of the brand on these). I just confirmed and made payment on my gauges from Ebay also. I hope they go in easy!!!

Re: gauges
I finally made the plunge on Ebay yesterday for the guages. I'm looking forward to installing these as this will be my first true mod on my 03 Santy. Sac D's instructions look perfect. Wish me luck...
